MYTHS ABOUT SKIN CARE AND SKIN CARE PRODUCTS
Using a daily sunscreen has always been one of my top skincare tips. When it comes to skin damage, prevention is better than cure. On top that, it can save you a lot of money in the long run too.
The truth is that the sun is the number one accelerator of skin aging.
Massive amounts of free radicals from the sun damage the skin and much of that damage is, unfortunately, irreversible.
The sun emits UVA and UVB rays. During summer months, the UVB rays are much more intense and allows our skins to tan. Too much UVB will cause sun burn and a sun burn causes lasting damage in the skin’s memory. UVA rays on the other hand remains the same throughout the year. These rays are also deep penetrating and causes damage to the skin that leads to wrinkle formation.
By applying daily sunscreen, you will strengthen the skin’s defences against the sun. Although we can never stop the aging process, we can drastically slow down aging and look younger for longer. On a more serious note, SPF is a key factor in the prevention of dangerous skin cancers. In a country like South Africa where we enjoy lovely weather and sunshine all year long, this is simply a must-have in anyone’s home care routine. It is truly worthwhile to invest in a high quality sunscreen and apply it every day, no matter the weather!
